Mini BIO – NNPC Restructuring & Alleged Unbundling

Earlier, the NNPC was embroiled in a controversy when the two major oil workers’ unions (PENGASSAN & NUPENG) accused the corporation’s GMD, top management and the Nigerian government of allegedly attempting to unbundle the corporation without recourse to transparency, and without letting them into the alleged unbundling exercise.

The GMD who also doubles as the Minister of State of the Ministry of Petroleum Resources debunked the allegations. Dr. Ibe Kachikwu while debunking the unbundling of the NNPC said the government was only reorganizing internal operations and structures to enhance efficiency, workability and marketability of the entire corporation.

Apparently, before his explanations, the oil workers’ unions had ordered a nationwide strike action which acerbated fuel distributions nationwide, causing fuel scarcity and very long queues at petrol stations throughout Nigeria. The unions have suspended their strike action after a meeting with the government.

The appointments are part of the recent reorganization by the management of the corporation.
