Etisalat Nigeria is reportedly changing its brand name to 9Mobile
Prior to this move, Etisalat International had asked the Nigerian arm of the telecom giant to discontinue the use of Etisalat as the brand name . . .
There are reports that the new chief executive officer (CEO) of Etisalat Nigeria Boye Olusanya who the responsibility to oversee the transition of the company due to his experience in the smooth transition of Celtel to Airtel may have come with this new name considering the need the position of Etisalat International on the continued use of the Etisalat brand name.
The last Chairman of Etisalat Nigeria, Mr. Hakeem Bello Osagie (photo: left), had earlier resigned his appointment following the approval of a restructuring plan for the telecommunications firm.
Although the chairman had planned to leave immediately the banks made the take-over move, he opted to tarry until a road map for the company was finalized. The timing of the resignation was strategically delayed till stakeholders had agreed on a plan. This came on the heels of rapid events, more than a week after Mubadala Development Company directors tendered their resignation.
The new CEO of the newly named 9Mobile Boye Olusanya (photo: above) was the former Deputy Managing Director of Celtel Nigeria. He was a pioneer member of Econet in 2001 and has worked through the different stages with the company.
Boye Olusanya holds a BSc in Civil Engineering and MSc in Environmental Civil Engineering from a Liverpool University. He also has another MSc in Computer Science from Manchester University.
